1.     LAS FLORES RANCH     San Bernardino Co.     October, 1969

From I-15 take SR-138 about 7 ½ miles to SR-173, drive east for two miles and turn left into the Las Flores Ranch property. This is private property and you will have to drive to the plaque in the central area among the buildings. This first plaque of the Billy Holcomb Chapter was under the sponsorship of Platrix Chapter No. 2 and speaks of the murder of three cowboys on the Las Flores Ranch.

 

2.     HOLCOMB VALLEY     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1970

In the San Bernardino Mountains, take Sr-38 (North Shore Drive) on the north shore of Big Bear Lake to find Van Dusen Canyon Road (forest road 3N09). This intersection if about 8.9 miles east of the Big Bear Lake Dam.. Drive 3.7 miles north to the junction with road 3N16, turn right, go one half mile and pull into the dirt parking area on the left. The plaque is located between the parking area and the cabin to the west. This was a joint dedication with Platrix Chapter No. 2.

 

3.     STODDARD WELLS     San Bernardino Co.     April, 1971

Take Stoddard Well Road from Victorville and go north for about 14 ½ miles to the site of Stoddard Well. It is about 9 miles from Sr-247 (Barstow Road) south, out of Barstow. This was a joint Clampout with Platrix Chapter No. 2.

 

4.     MARIA MERCED WILLIAMS De RAINS ADOBE     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1972

The plaque is fastened to the right of the entrance of the Adobe located at the corner of Vineyard Avenue/Carnelian Street and Hemlock Street in Rancho Cucamonga.

5.     ROMERO PASS-BRADSHAW-GRANT PASS     Riverside Co.     October, 1972

The plaque is located about 26 miles east of Indio at the Chiriaco Summit exit from I-10. It is between the Patton Memorial Museum and the Chiriaco Restaurant in a small cactus and palm garden.

 

6.     THE OWL HOTEL     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1973

The Owl Hotel is in the mining town of Red Mountain, 70 miles north of San Bernardino on SR-395 and 25 miles north of SR-58 at Kramer Junction. It is about 0.1 of a mile south of the Silver Dollar Café on the west side of the highway. The plaque is mounted over the front door.

 

7.     HEART O’THE HILLS     Riverside Co.     October, 1973, Re-Dedication July, 2006

        

 

The site is west of Temecula near the intersection of Camino Estribo and Via Gorrion. The cast aluminum plaque was located high up on the side of a hill and disappeared during the development of the avocado groves. The utopian city Murray Schloss dreamed of was never built.

From Interstate15 in Temecula at Rancho California Road turn right (or left if coming from the south) to go west on Rancho California Road.
At 1.7 mi., turn left onto Via Santa Rosa.
At 1.6 mi. turn right onto Via Tornado.
At 0.7 mi., the pavement becomes a dirt road and goes beyond a stout locked gate.
At 0.1 mi. beyond the gate the Heart Of The Hills plaque is on your left on the property of the Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve.
 
The newly placed Heart Of the Hills plaque is about 1 mile westerly of the the original plaque, number 7, dated October 21, 1973.

 

8.     WE REMEMBER BABY     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1974

Start on SR-62 at Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms, driving about 14.5 miles east and turn right on Gold Crown Road. Drive about 6 miles to where there is a sign on a rock that says "Vail Mining Co." and turn right. In 0.5 mile, turn left. In another 0.5 mile you will pass a mine shaft on the right with a chain link fence around it. Continue another 0.6 mile to a small clearing on the right and park here.. The plaque is located about 100 yards south of the parking area and placed at ground level. The grave site was desecrated and Billy Holcomb Chapter replaced it with this plaque.

 

9.     GUS LEDERER     Riverside Co.     October, 1974

The plaque is near the Corn Springs campground about 30 miles east of Desert Center (I-10/SR-177). Take the Corn Springs exit from I-10. The campground is about 71/2 miles south of the I-10 freeway. The plaque is in a cleft in a rock, easily missed. It is about 0.1 mile east of the Riverside County plaque at the campground. Gus was the Mayor here.

 

10.     SILVER DOLLAR SALOON     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1975

The plaque is mounted over the front door of the Silver Dollar Café in Red Mountain, about 25 miles north of the junction of State Routes 395 & 58, also known as Four Corners. It is mounted next to the Red Mountain plaque.

 

11.     TO THE LADIES OF CALICO     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1976

This plaque has been re-located from its former place on the side of the Old Schoolhouse. It presently is located inside of the Lane House and Museum. It was removed from the schoolhouse for storage while the schoolhouse received a new coat of paint and it was not replaced.

 

12.     JACOB BERGMAN GRAVE SITE     Riverside Co.     October, 1976

From Temecula, take SR-79 east towards Aguanga for 15.5 miles to Caprice Road. The plaque is about 200 feet east of the highway by the small fenced-in Bergman Cemetery.

 

13.     JACK AND IDA MITCHELL     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1977

The plaque is located north of I-40 near the Mitchell Caverns State Recreation Area at the junction of Essex Road and Black Canyon Road. The Mitchell’s lived here and developed Mitchell Caverns.

 

14.     SHAVER’S WELL     Riverside Co.     October, 1977

The plaque and well are about 23 miles east of Indio. Take the Joshua Tree National Park/Twentynine Palms exit from I-10 south on Box Canyon Road 7.7 miles. This is the north end of Box Canyon. The plaque is at the north end of the turnout on the west side of the road. From Mecca, take Avenue 66 northeast for 12 miles to the upper end of Box Canyon.

 

15.     RED MOUNTAIN     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1978

Red Mountain, a mining town, is about 25 miles north of the junction of SR-395/SR-58. The plaque is mounted above the door of the Silver Dollar Café, formerly the Silver Dollar Saloon.

 

16.     CAMP ROCK SPRING     San Bernardino, Co.     October, 1978

The former army camp is about 42 miles east of Baker on the "Old Mojave Road." From the junction of Cedar Canyon Road and Black Canyon Road, drive east 5.1 miles and turn right. This road curves past the hill to the site.

 

17.     JUAN DIEGO FLATS     Riverside Co.     May, 1979

From Temecula take SR-79 east to the junction with SR-371 at Aguanga. Turn left onto SR-371 and in 10.8 miles make a left turn onto Cary Road. Drive 3.5 miles on Cary Road to Tripp Flats Road and turn left. In 1 mile you turn left at the fire station. In 1 more mile veer left at the split in the road. This is Juan Diego Flats Road. High clearance vehicles only, from this junction. In another 2.1 miles you will arrive at the east end of Juan Diego Flats. The plaque is located about 35’ east of the road.

 

18.     BELLEVILL/HOLCOMB VALLEY     San Bernardino Co.     October, 1979

The site of Belleville is about 3 to 4 miles north of Big Bear Lake between a parking lot and a log cabin at the site

 

19.     FRANCIS MARION "BORAX’ SMITH     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1980

About 48 miles north of Barstow and about 4.5 miles south of Baker, exit I-15 at Rasor Road. Drive east on Rasor Road about 6 miles. The plaque is on the north side of a group of 30 foot tall trees.

 

20.     MINERVA HAMILTON HOYT     San Bernardino Co.     October, 1980

The plaque is fastened to a large rock in the Joshua Tree National Park Headquarters and Visitor Center courtyard in Twentynine Palms. The Park Headquarters is one half mile south of SR-62 on Utah Trail.

 

21.     SITE OF RAGTOWN AND THE BUCKEYE MINING DISTRICT     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1981

Start in Ludlow at the I-40 exit ramp 50 miles east of Barstow. The plaque is about 6 miles south of Ludlow near this former copper and gold mining district.

 

22.     SITE OF FIRST HOUSE IN RIVERSIDE COUNTY     Riverside Co.     October, 1981

About 8 miles south of Corona on I-15 take the Temescal Canyon Road exit. Turn right onto Temescal Canyon Road and drive south for 0.4 mile. Turn right onto Lawson Road. In about 0.2 mile, walk south 0.1 mile. The plaque and remains of the adobe built in about 1824 were near here.

 

23.     SERRANO TANNING VATS     Riverside Co.     October, 1981

About 8 miles south of Corona, the plaque is on the east side of the I-15 freeway and Temescal Canyon Road exit about 150’ from the road.

 

24.    SITE OF THIRD SERRANO ADOBE     Riverside Co.     October, 1981

The site is about 8 miles south of Corona. It is on the East side of the I-15 freeway at Temescal Canyon Road exit about 150’from the road.

 

25.     NATIONAL OLD TRAILS     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1982

The plaque is in Needles at the "K" Street Colorado River crossing. It is on the California side of the river and on the north side of the bridge

 

26.     RANCHO CHINO ADOBE SITE     San Bernardino Co.     June, 1982

The plaque is erected in front of Chino Fire Station No. 2 on Eucalyptus Avenue, west of Route 142.

 

27.     BLUFF LAKE STAGE STOP     San Bernardino Co.     October, 1982

The plaque is erected next to the original stage stop buildings, on the Pasadena YMCA grounds at Bluff Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains. Bluff Lake is about 3 to 4 miles south of Big Bear Lake’s east end.

 

28.     OLD BEAR VALLEY DAM     San Bernardino Co.     October, 1982

The plaque is at the west end of Big Bear Lake near the dam, in a small parking area on the south side.

 

29.     BARSTOW HARVEY HOUSE     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1983

Exit Interstate 15 at Barstow Road (State Route-247) and cross over the freeway and continue north for 8/10ths mile. Turn left onto Main Street (Route 66) and drive 2/10 ths of a mile and turn right onto 1st Avenue. Continue past the bridge about 1/10th of a mile and turn right at Riverside Drive. The plaque is located on the south side (track side) of the Harvey House.

 

30.     POCHEA INDIAN VILLAGE SITE     Riverside Co.     October, 1983

This plaque is on the grounds of the Ramona Bowl in Hemet near the second set of steps of the upper entrance.

 

31.     SODA SPRINGS/ZZYZX MINERAL SPRINGS     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1984

The plaque is south of Baker at the Zzyzx Desert Studies Center on the north side of the intersection of Zzyzx Road and Boulevard of Dreams.

 

32.     SITE OF U.S.RABBIT EXPERIMENTAL STATION     San Bernardino Co.     June 1984

The plaque is in front of the Josephine Knopf Senior Citizens Center at 8384 Cypress Avenue in Fontana.

 

33.     MINING TOWN OF HART     San Bernardino Co.     October, 1984

The site of the town of Hart is about 15 miles southeast of Nipton. Take the Nipton Road exit off of I-15. Turn right and travel 3.5 miles to Ivanpah Road. Turn right and drive to Ivanpah. Continue 7 miles (pavement ends in 2.3 miles) to the junction at Hart Mine Road. Turn left here. At the first split in the road (4.7 miles) veer right. Also veer right at the next split in the road (0.5 mile). At the next junction (1.8 miles) veer left and continue 1.5 miles to where the plaque is located at a fork in the road.

 

34.     WILEY WELL     Riverside co.     May, 1985

This plaque is in the Wiley Well Rest Area at the east end of the automobile parking lot. The rest area is 14 miles west of Blythe on I-10 at the Wiley Road intersection and 9 miles north of the well.

 

35.     TAPIA ADOBE SITE     San Bernardino Co.     June, 1985

The plaque is near the northwest corner of Vineyard Avenue and Route 66. Tiburcio Tapia was granted 13,000 acres of land and built an adobe on Red Hill.

 

36.     IRON MOUNTAIN DIVISIONAL CAMP     San Bernardino Co.     October, 1985

The plaque is 5.7 miles east of the junction of Routes 62 and 177, on the south side of the road. This is the first of the many desert training camps of W.W. II commemorated by E. Clampus Vitus.

 

37.     THE MOJAVE ROAD     San Bernardino Co.     April, 1986

The plaque is about 1/3 the distance between Baker and the Colorado River. It is located at the intersection of Cedar Canyon Road and Kelso/Cima Road in the Mojave National Preserve. This plaque was erected by Billy Holcomb members for a T.R.A.S.H. Trek (Trans Sierra Roisterous Alliance of Senior Humbugs) when our own XNGH and XSublime leader of ECV’s Grand Council Sid Blumner was TRASH leader.

 

38.     CHIMNEY ROCK     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1986

This plaque is west of the intersection of Rabbit Springs Road and Route 18 (Old Woman Springs Road) in Lucerne Valley.

 

39.     ROBIDOUX GRIST MILL SITE     Riverside Co.     August, 1986

The plaque is at the northeast corner of the yard at 5540 Molino Way in Rubidoux. Fort Drive intersects at this point forming a "T" intersection.

The plaque is about 10.5 miles north of I-10 on SR-95 north of Blythe. It is near the site of the 1877 intake.

From the junction of I-40 and SR-95, about 8 miles east of Needles, go north on SR-95 about 8 ¼ miles. The plaque is on the east side of the highway in a turnout.

 

42.     SAAHATPA     Riverside Co.     May, 1987

The plaque is to the west of the buildings in the Brookside Rest Area, about 3 miles west of the City of Beaumont on westbound I-10. Saahtpa was the name of the village of Juan Antonio who was a chieftain of the Cahuilla Indians.

 

43.     TRANSPOLAR RECORD FLIGHT SITE     Riverside Co.     June, 1987

44.     YUCAIPA RANCHERIA     San Bernardino Co.     July, 1987

The address of this plaque is the Yucaipa Adobe, 32183 Kentucky Street, Yucaipa. The property, also known as the Sepulveda Adobe, is at the intersection of Kentucky Street and Dunlap Boulevard in Yucaipa.

 

45.     JENSEN-ALVARADO RANCH     Riverside Co.     October, 1987

The location of this plaque is the Jensen-Alvarado Historic Ranch Park and Museum, a Riverside County Park. The address is 4307 Briggs Street in Rubidoux. This property is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The plaque is located at Horace Miller County Park south of Blythe about 12 miles. The park is at the end of 38th Avenue.

The plaque is in the Clyde V. Kane Rest Area about 33 miles north of Barstow on the north-bound side of I-15.

The location is Death Valley Junction, Routes 127 and 190. The plaque has been erected in front of the Amargosa Hotel/Opera House complex.

Exit I-10 about 23 miles east of Indio at Cottonwood Springs Road. This is also marked as an exit to Joshua Tree National Park. At 0.2 mile north of the freeway, turn right onto a dirt road and proceed about ¾ miles to the plaque.

The plaque is 5.5 miles east of the junction of Routes 62 and 177, on the north side of the highway.

 

51.     SPEED-OF-LIGHT EXPERIMENT     Riverside Co.     April, 1989

The plaque is in Pine Cove in the San Jacinto Mountains. Start at Pine Cove Road and SR-243. Drive on Pine Cove Road 0.2 mile from SR-243 in a westerly direction to the junction with Chickadee Lane. It is on the right.

 

52.     LUCY BELL LANE     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1989

The plaque is in the "Ghost Town" of Calico east of Barstow. It is on the north side of Main Street, across from Lane’s General Merchandise Store and next to her former home.

 

53.     RANDSBURG, CALIFORNIA     San Bernardino Co.     October, 1989

The plaque is at the Randsburg jail. Three miles north of Red Mountain on SR-395, turn left onto the marked road to Randsburg and proceed nearly 1 mile to the jail. Randsburg was a gold mining town founded in 1895.

 

54.     DESERT TRAINING CENTER     Riverside Co.     November, 1989

 

The plaque is about 26 miles east of Indio off I-10 at Chiriaco Summit. It is to your left as you approach the General Patton Museum entrance.

On I-10 about 45 miles east of Indio, exit at Desert Center (Route 177) and drive north about 17 miles on Route 177. The plaque is on the west side of the highway.

 

56.     HOLCOMB VALLEY     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1990

The plaque is located at the entrance to the Eleanor Abbott Museum in Big Bear City in the San Bernardino Mountains. The museum is at Big Bear City Park on Greenway Drive (SR-18) and Angeles Boulevard.

 

57.     PAH-UTE CREEK, FORT PAH-UTE, MOJAVE ROAD     San Bernardino Co.     October, 1990

The plaque is located at the Goffs School Museum about 30 miles west of Needles and 6 miles north of I-40. The remains of Fort Pah-Ute are approximately 20 miles north/northwest of the junction of SR-95 and I-40.

 

58.     HIGHGROVE HYDROELECTRIC PLANT     Riverside Co.     May, 1991

The plaque is in Highgrove, about .3 miles south of the I-215/Center Street Interchange and north of Riverside. The monument and plaque are on the west side of the street overlooking the Upper Warm Springs canal.

 

59.     RICE DIVISIONAL CAMP     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1991

The plaque is located about 70 miles east of Indio. Take I-10 to exit at SR-177 (Desert Center). Take SR-177 north to SR-62.The plaque and monument are about 25 miles east of the Sr-62/SR-177 junction. They are on the east-bound side of the road by the site of Camp Rice/Rice Army Airfield.

 

60.     SOVIET TRANSPOLAR LANDING SITE     Riverside Co.     September, 1991

This second plaque about the Soviet Transpolar Landing Site, a California Registered Landmark, is located in the City of San Jacinto at the corner of San Jacinto Street (SR-79) and 6th Street in Hofmann Park.

 

61.     GOFFS SCHOOLHOUSE 1914     San Bernardino Co.     October, 1991

This plaque at the entrance to the Goffs School is on Lanfair Rd. about 30 miles west of Needles and 6 miles north of I-40

 

62.     CLIPPER DIVISIONAL CAMP     San Bernardino Co.     October, 1991

This plaque is located in the east-bound Fenner Rest Area on I-40 about 37 miles west of Needles.

 

63.     HAMILTON SCHOOL     Riverside Co.     November, 1991

The monument and bronze plaque are located in front of the old school building at Minor Park in Anza on SR-371. Anza is about 30 miles east of Temecula by way of SR-79 and SR-371.

 

64.     BANNING WOMAN’S CLUB     Riverside Co.     May, 1992

The monument and plaque are located in front of the Woman’s club at 175 Hays Street in Banning.

 

65.     OLD ROUTE 66     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1992

The plaque is located on Old Route 66, at the site of Champless, about 90 miles east of Barstow. It is about 12 miles east of Amboy and 4 miles north of Cadiz.

 

66.     VALLEY WELLS     San Bernardino Co.     October, 1992

This plaque is located at the south-bound Valley Wells Rest Area on I-15. This is about 26 miles north of Baker and 25 miles south of the California-Nevada border.

 

67.     CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CORPS 60TH ANNIVERSARY     San Bernardino Co.     April, 1993

This monument and plaque are located at the southwest corner of the San Bernardino County Court House at 351 North Arrowhead Avenue in the city of San Bernardino.

 

68.     GALLEANO     WINERY     Riverside Co.     April, 1993

This Riverside County Historical Landmark and State Point of Historical Interest plaque is located in the 4200 block of Wineville Road in Mira Loma. This is southeast of the junction of I-15 and SR 60.

The plaque has been placed in front of the administration building at the Blythe Airfield west of Blythe, CA. "Dedicated May 2, 1993 in memoriam to 159 separate 390th bomb group 10 man crews MIA, & other fallen comrades. 1,590 men missing in action. They flew, they fought, they gave their lives. A man can do no more for his country.

 

70.     MARL SPRINGS     San Bernardino Co.     October, 1993

The plaque is located at 7373 Baker Boulevard in front of the Community Services District offices at the east end of the City of Baker.

72.     FONTANA FARMS COMPANY CAMP NO. 1, FOREMAN’S RANCH HOUSE IN OPERATION, 1905-1941     San Bernardino Co.     April, 1994

This plaque located at 8863 Pepper Avenue in Fontana is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is just above SR-66 or Foothill Boulevard.

 

73.     CAMP CADY     San Bernardino Co.     May, 1994

The plaque is located near I-15 and Harvard Road at the California Department of Fish and Game Wildlife Refuge on the north side of the Mojave River. The location is on the old Cady Ranch property and is accessible via Harvard Road to Cherokee Road and turn left. Proceed 2.5 miles on Cherokee Road and turn right at the second fence line. At the end of this dirt road is the monument.

 

74.     HEE LI DISCOVER OF AMERICA     May, 1994

  

This difficult to get to plaque is about 30 miles off the coast of Monterey, California at longitude 112 degrees 29’ 16", latitude 36 degrees 23’ 14" on the floor of the Pacific Ocean.

 

75.     BLUE CUT San Bernardino Co.     July, 1994

Plaque located on Old Route 66, 4 miles north of Devore, Ca. The Blue Cut is on the San Andreas Fault.

 

76.     OATMAN ARIZONA AND ITS BURROS     Mohave County, Arizona     October, 1994

Plaque located at 140 Main Street (Old Route 66) in Oatman, Arizona. This was a joint Clampout with the Lost Dutchman Chapter of Arizona.

 

77.     SMILEY PLACE     Riverside Co.     October, 1994

The address of this plaque is 82616 Miles Avenue in Indio. It is mounted to the wall on your left, after entering the property. Smiley Place was built by Dr. Harry W. Smiley in 1926 and served as the first medical office in Indio.

The plaque is fastened to the right of the U.S. Post Office door in the town of Earp, CA 92242 immediately east of the junction of SR-62 and the turnoff to the Parker Dam in Arizona.

The monument is near the corner of the Daggett Museum building at 33703 2nd Street in Daggett, CA.

The plaque and well are about 23 miles east of Indio. Take the Joshua Tree National Park/Twenty nine Palms exit from I-10. Drive south on Box Canyon Road about 7.5 miles to the north end of Box Canyon. The plaque is at the north end of the turnout on the west side of the road. It is about 12.3 miles north of the intersection of SR-111/SR-195 and the railroad tracks on Box Canyon Road. Originally erected October 19, 1977.

The plaque is located at the junction of SR-14 and Jawbone Canyon Road, about 20 miles north of the city of Mojave. Josie finally hit pay dirt in 1937 by discovering the richest radium deposit known at the time. This was a 3 Chapter Clampout with Peter Lebeck and Slim Princess chapters.

This plaque is less than 20 miles north of St. George, Utah. Exit the I-15 freeway at Exit 22. Drive south on the east side of I-15 on the frontage road about 2 miles to the St. George mobile home park. This is a Western Horizon Resort. The plaque is about 150 feet inside the St. George mobile resort entrance and is mounted on a metal post in a grassy area.

This plaque is located near Daggett at National Trails Highway (Old Route 66) and Minneola Road. It is set between the highway and the railroad tracks on the west of Minneola Road.

This is in the northeast quadrant of Nipton Road and the railroad tracks. It is on the south side of the Nipton Trading Post parking lot. Nipton is about 3 miles west of the state boundary with Nevada and 10.2 miles from I-15 by way of Nipton Rd.

This plaque is at the junction of SR-127 and Saratoga Springs Road at the south end of Death Valley. The plaque was replaced after the original was stolen. The site is across the highway from the Dumont Dunes.

 

97.     SEARLES WAGON ROUTES     San Bernardino Co.     May, 2000

This plaque is about 16 miles east of Ridgecrest and 7 miles south of Trona at the junction of SR-178 and Pinnacle Road.

 

98.     KING ALFRED THE GREAT     Salisbury, England     May, 2000

This plaque is in the Cock & Bull Pub in Salisbury, on the south side of Salisbury Plain. It honors King Alfred the Great, the first man to be known as Humbug.

 

99.     COLORADO RIVER FERRIES     La Paz Co., Arizona     October, 1997 (2000)

The plaque was erected on September 11, 1999 as a planned part of the entrance to the Cibola Park in Arizona. It is located at the southwest corner of River Road and Baseline Road. This was a Tripartite Clampout with the Lost Dutchman and John P. Squibob chapters.

 

100.     CIBOLA PLAQUE     La Paz Co., Arizona     October, 2000

The plaque is on the southwest corner of River Road, Cibola Road and Baseline Road about 20 miles south of I-10 on the Arizona side of the river. It is at the entrance of the Cibola Park mounted with the Colorado River Ferries Plaque. This was a double erection with the Lost Dutchman Chapter of Arizona.

This double erection Clampout was a 6-way Hexagonal Desert Training Center event. About 65 miles east of Yuma on I-8, exit the freeway at Exit 67. This is the Dateland exit. On the east side of the freeway is a gift shop and restaurant with gas station across the street. The plaques are mounted on one monument about 100’ southeast of the restaurant in a grassy area.

About 65 miles east of Yuma on I-8, exit the freeway at Exit 67. This is the Dateland exit. On the east side of the freeway is a gift shop and restaurant with gas station across the street. This Plaque is located in Temecula at the southwestern end of Via Tornado, just beyond the Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve gate.
 
Long Directions:

From Interstate15 in Temecula at Rancho California Road turn right (or left if coming from the south) to go west on Rancho California Road.�
At 1.7 mi., turn left onto Via Santa  Rosa.
At 1.6 mi. turn right onto Via Tornado.
At 0.7 mi., the pavement becomes a dirt road which goes beyond a stout locked gate.
At 0.1 mi. beyond the gate the Heart of The Hills plaque is on your left on the property of the Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve.
